About the awards

How are winners of the IFR Awards selected?
Winners are selected by IFR’s experienced and impartial editorial team, based on a company’s performance throughout the Awards year.  The Awards year runs from November to November.  Companies are encouraged to pitch for Awards in October of each year, but winners are not restricted to those that do.  For more information, click here.

What awards are presented on stage?
The Top Awards are presented with trophies on stage.  This year, these Awards are:
Bank of the Year
Bond House of the Year
Equity House of the Year
Loan House of the Year
Derivatives House of the Year
Emerging Markets Bond House of the Year
Capital Markets Adviser of the Year
M&A Adviser of the Year
Restructuring Adviser of the Year
Issuer of the Year
SSAR Issuer of the Year
Financial Issuer of the Year
Corporate Issuer of the Year
US Bond House of the Year
Euro Bond House of the Year
Yen Bond House of the Year
Structured Equity House of the Year

Who collects the awards from the stage?
IFR invites the most senior employee at the company or the most senior employee within the asset class that relates to the Award, to the stage to collect the Award.  Generally, only one person may come to the stage to collect each Award but exceptions can be made – for example in instances where there are co-heads.

Should award collectors give speeches?
Only the collector of the Bank of the Year Award may give an acceptance speech.

Who gets invited to the top table?
Along with HRH The Princess Royal and senior Thomson Reuters employees, the winners of the Top Awards are invited to sit at the top table.

What is the Tombstone auction?
Over the years, Thomson Reuters has raised more than £24 million for Save the Children, largely though the tombstone auction at the IFR Awards Dinner.  This sees companies pledge amounts of money to the charity, competing to lead the tombstone as the organisation to have pledged the highest amount.  Pledges are cumulative.
